The School of Business and Management currently has three studentships available for entry onto the PhD Programme in January 2011.


Research within the School clusters around six broad themes (i) innovation, networks and knowledge; (ii) communications, discourse and narratives; (iii) equality and diversity; (iv) education; (v) globalisation and (vi) business history. Faculty conduct research across one or more of these themes. We also host the Centre for Research in Equality and Diversity, the Globalisation Research Centre, the Business History Research Centre and co-host the Centre for Global Security and Development with the School of Geography and the School of Politics.

We are looking to attract applications from candidates with an interest in one of three broad areas – innovation, ethics and communications. BEML SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR SC/ST UNDERGRADUATE ENGINEERING STUDENTS :
BEML Limited is one of the pioneer Engineering PSUs under Ministry of Defence, engaged in manufacturing of Mining & Construction Equipments, Defence Equipments and Rail & Metro Products and has been conferred ‘Mini Ratna–Category-1’ status since August 2006. We have eight manufacturing Units located at Bangalore, Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Mysore and Palakkad and Marketing Zonal/Regional/District Offices spread all over India in addition to having Business Offices/Local Companies at Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, China etc. with a total workforce of more than 11000 (Officers/Employees). With a view to providing employment opportunities to the deserving SC/ST students, the Company has decided to award scholarships to the Undergraduate students pursuing the Engineering course in Mechanical, Automobile and Industrial Production disciplines. The value of the Scholarship will be limited to prescribed Government fee in the Government colleges minus any other Scholarships from Government or other source(s), irrespective of whether the Institutions are Government / Aided or Un-aided / approved Private College / Institution. In case, any SC/ST student is receiving Scholarship from any other source and which is incidentally more than the Government fee, he/she can also apply for BEML Scholarship and upon selection, he/she will be entitled for reimbursement of purchase of books and instruments not exceeding Rs.2,500/- per semester. In addition, Hostel fee will also be reimbursed subject to production of proof. The duration of the Scholarship will be for the entire period of study excluding the first year on the following terms and conditions :

1. ELIGIBILITY & CONDITIONS FOR AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIP :

(a) BEML Scholarship shall be awarded to deserving SC/ST students who are studying in 1st year of full-time Engineering Degree in Mechanical/Automobile/Production disciplines only and who havesecured 60% of marks in aggregate in respect of SC students and 55% of marks in aggregate in respect of ST students in the PUC/INTERMEDIATE.

(b) Annual income from all sources of the parents / guardian of the candidates shall not exceed Rs.2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs). Preference will be given to the students belonging to rural background and economically backward family with no other person in the family having regular job in any Government/Private sector.

(c) The candidate in receipt of BEML Scholarship shall be called “BEML Scholar’” throughout the period of the award and will be considered for employment in BEML, subject to meeting the prescribed norms / conditions, upon successful completion of the course. In case so selected, he/she will have to serve BEML Limited for a minimum period of three years excluding Training period of one year.

2. PROCEDURE FOR AWARD AND ITS SUBSEQUENT CONTINUANCE :
Subject to fulfillment and acceptance of conditions set out above, procedure for initial award and its subsequent continuance shall be regulated as under :
(a) Selection shall be made from among the eligible candidates {para 1.(a)} on the basis of performance in the first semester. Based on the marks obtained in the first semester; the recommendation of the Head of the Institution/College and good conduct, Scholarship will be awarded. Only a limited number of Scholarships are available.

(b) Award for subsequent years and until completion of the Engineering Degree shall be strictly subject to the continuous satisfactory performance and good conduct.

(c) Awardees who fail to pass the semester and or annual examination, as the case may be in the first attempt and with atleast 60% of marks in the aggregate and or indulging in any activity amounting to misconduct as per the Rules and Regulations of the concerned institution will disqualify themselves for any further aid.

(d) Application form containing conditions and procedures are to be downloaded from our website www.bemlindia.com and shall be forwarded to BEML Limited through Head of the Institutions/College concerned along with certified copies of the Caste certificate, Certificates in proof of educational qualification and % of marks and other relevant documents with two sets of photocopies and two passport size photographs.

3. MODE OF PAYMENT :

4. SELECTION FOR EMPLOYMENT IN BEML LIMITED :

Upon successful completion of Engineering, “BEML Scholar” will be called upon to appear for an interview at the Corporate Office at Bangalore, subject to requirement. If finally selected, the Scholar shall be taken in BEML Limited as Assistant Engineer Trainee on a lumpsum stipend of Rs.12,000/- per month. They may be placed in any of the Production Units, Corporate Office or Zonal/Regional/District Marketing Offices. After successful completion of one year training, they will be designated as Assistant Engineer in Grade-I Officer level in the Pay scale of 12600-3%- 32500. Their career progression will be as per Company’s Rules along with others.

Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme

Instructions to the Parents/Gurus

The Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme is implemented at the national level. There are hundreds of art forms practised in our country. Since the number of scholarships available are limited, only exceptionally talented and outstanding students need to apply.

Children whose date of birth is in between 01.07.1997 and 30.06.2001 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply for the award of scholarships for the year 2011-12.

Minimum four years’ training in the field of art form in which scholarship is being applied, either with a guru or in an institution is essential.

Students applying for Performing Arts are required to submit a certificate from the Guru/teacher imparting training, clearly mentioning the details regarding the training received by them, the Bio-data of the Guru/teacher as per the prescribed format in the application alongwith three (03) photographs taken at the time of training or any performance.

Students applying for Painting must attach three (03) specimens of their latest work (either original or photograph) and those in Crafts, Sculpture etc. should attach three photographs of latest work, duly attested by their Guru/teacher alongwith the Bio-data of the Guru/teacher.

Gurus/Parents are requested to ensure that their wards possess certain level of standard in the field while applying. Not more than three (03) students of a Guru/Institution will be considered for award of scholarship at a time keeping in view the large number of applications received and limited number of scholarships available in each field. If more than one Guru/teacher is working in the same Institution, then also only three (03) applications of that Institution will be considered for award of scholarship. Only those applicants, whose names are recommended by Central Selection Committee, will be informed about the date, timings and venue of the interview/test by post only, which may be held during the months of May-July 2011 at Regional Level.

The candidate must apply only in one subject/field in which he/she is confident because only one scholarship could be availed under the scheme. All applications of those, who apply in more than one subject/field would be rejected straight away.

Students in folk, traditional and indigenous art forms should mention in Column No. 7 of the application form, the exact name of the art form and also the State/Ut, where it is practised. Students in traditional art forms, crafts, traditions facing extinction and belonging to families of practising traditional performing arts are given preference. They have to enclose a brief write-up to justify their claim for consideration in this category, otherwise their candidature will be considered in general category.

Application forms issued in previous years, incomplete applications and those without relevant information and documents/specimens/photographs regarding training will not be considered. Those who are already receiving the scholarship from CCRT or any other Institution should not apply again either for new scholarship or for extension. A scholarship holder shall not receive any other cultural scholarship/stipend in case he/ she is selected for CTSS Scheme, without the prior approval of the CCRT.

Last date for submission of complete and duly filled application form in the CCRT, New Delhi is
31.12.2010.

Centre for Cultural Resources and Training - Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme

OBJECT

The object of the scheme is to provide facilities to outstanding talented children selected in the age group of 10 to 14 years (as per the cut off eligibility dates), studying either in recognized schools or belonging to families of practicing traditional performing artists for getting specialized training in various cultural fields such as traditional forms of music, dance, drama as well as painting, sculpture and crafts, laying special emphasis on rare art forms, which are in the process of becoming extinct.

NATURE OF SCHOLARSHIP

Subject to availability of funds, the total number of fresh scholarships to be awarded every year will be 520, of which 125 may be reserved for children of families practicing traditional performing arts etc. and 20 for Specially Challenged children. The remaining 375 scholarships will be treated as general scholarships.

The talented children in the age group of 10 to 14 years (as per the cut off eligibility dates), studying in the recognized schools will be eligible to apply under the Scheme. In exceptional cases, the lower age limit can be relaxed up to two years. In the case of children of families practicing traditional performing arts, the condition regarding attendance of school for academic education will not be imposed at the time of application. But in the event of their selection, they must attend a school for academic education and their scholarship will be released only on submission of a proper certificate from the Head of the School..

The children whose parent’s/guardian’s total income is less than Rs.6000/- only (Rupees Six Thousand Only) per month will be given preference for the award of scholarship. However, the criteria of talent and potential will be taken into consideration for all the candidates.

DURATION

The Scholarship awarded under the scheme will be initially for two years at a time and is renewable after every two years till the completion of the first university degree stage of education or up to the age of 20 years, whichever is earlier, subject to the awardee maintaining good progress. However, if the Half-Yearly Progress Reports are not submitted in time regularly, then the decision regarding discontinuation can be taken any time without prior notice, as and when required. Children not continuing academic education beyond Higher Secondary stage, but wishing to continue their training in the respective cultural fields in which scholarship has been awarded, on full time basis and without undertaking employment etc. shall continue to receive the scholarship till the age of 20 years or the completion of training course, whichever is earlier.

The payment of scholarship will start from the date which may be specified by the Centre or from the date on which the admission is obtained in the approved course in an Institution or with the approved guru, whichever is later. In the case of those studying with the guru, the date of commencement of studies with the guru will be date of commencement of the course.

APPLICATION

Application for the scholarship should be submitted by the parents/guardians in the prescribed form in one field/subject only, after getting necessary recommendations from school/ institution and guru/teacher, where the applicant is studying and receiving training respectively, directly to the CCRT, New Delhi by December 31, 2010. Duly completed applications from children belonging to the families practicing traditional arts will be obtained through renowned Gurus/Institutions by the CCRT directly.

SELECTION

For the shortlisting of candidates to be called for Interview/Test, the CCRT will constitute a Central Selection Committee, whose decision shall be final. The shortlisted candidates will be informed by post only about the dates, timings and venue of the Interview/Test which may be conducted at Regional level during the months of May-July 2011.

TRAINING

The selected child will be placed for training by the parent/guardian either in a suitable institution in which facilities for academic studies as well as for training in the particular cultural field for which the child is awarded the scholarship, are available or he/she will be placed for training in the field concerned under an approved guru/teacher while being allowed to pursue the academic studies in a recognized school. The decision of the CCRT on the selection of the course of study and the guru/teacher will be final.

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP

i) The value of scholarship will be Rs.300/- (Rupees Three Hundred Only) per month for those children who undergo their specialized training at the station where they are pursuing their academic studies at the time of the award up to the completion of first university degree stage of education. However, where the child is required to shift to a new station permanently for purpose of his/her specialized training and pursue his / her academic studies also on that station, only then the value of scholarship may be increased to Rs.400/-(Rupees Four Hundred Only ) per month.

ii) The actual fee paid for the specialized training to the Institution or to the guru/teacher shall be reimbursed to the scholarship holder in addition to the value of scholarship indicated under (i) above, subject to a ceiling of Rs.9000/- (Rupees Nine Thousand only) per year.

All payments of scholarship shall be made to the parent/guardian of scholarship holders, who shall be responsible to pay the approved tuition fee to the Guru/teacher and send the duly stamped payment receipts.

PROGRESS REPORT

The institution/guru/teacher under whom the scholarship holder is placed for training will be required to send detailed half yearly progress reports in respect of the scholars to the CCRT, New Delhi in the prescribed form. The progress report for the first half year from 1st January to 30th June, should reach CCRT by 15th July and for the second half year from 1st July to 31st December, by 15th January of the next year positively. If the progress report of the student is continuously unsatisfactory for the two half yearly or not received in time, then the scholarship will be discontinued, and the decision of the CCRT shall be final.

OTHER CONDITIONS

In case, where a change of the guru/teacher becomes necessary due to unavoidable circumstances, prior approval of the CCRT for a new guru/teacher in the prescribed Joining Report Performa and justifying the reason for change, must be taken.

In case the scholarship holder discontinues the training before the expiry of the period of scholarship without prior permission from the CCRT, the Centre shall have the right to cancel the scholarship and get the refund of the total amount spent on the scholarship holder till that date.

A scholarship holder shall not receive any other cultural scholarship/stipend in the concerned field without the prior approval of the CCRT.

The CCRT reserves the right to introduce at any time such changes in the terms and conditions of the Scheme as may be found necessary to serve the objectives of the Scheme.

What is the igenius scholarship?

Designed by Derek O’Brien, the igenius Scholarship Programme is a novel initiative
to reward multi-faceted children who are brilliant at both academics and extracurricular
activities. Through this programme, Max New York Life aims to nurture your child’s
all-round personality development.

Who can participate?

This scholarship programme is open for all students from classes 3 to 8 of government
recognized schools including private, public or national open schools all over India.
Participants will be segmented into two categories – Juniors (Classes 3 to 5) and
Seniors (Classes 6 to 8). Your child can register under a category on the basis
of the class he/she will belong to as on April 1, 2010.

Scholarship amount to be won

Scholarships ranging from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 20 lakh await your kid.

  • Top First Scholarship – Rs. 20 Lakh each for the two categories
  • 2nd Prize – 25 prizes of Rs. 1 Lakh for each of the two categories
  • 3rd Prize – 120 prizes of Rs. 10,000/- for each of the two categories
  • Consolation Prizes – 1500 prizes of Rs. 3,000/– for each of the two categories

Prorgramme

The scholarship programme is open for all students from classes 3 to 8 of government recognized schools including private, public or national open schools all over India.Registration for the programme opens from February 8 and ends on March 31, 2010.

The igenius Scholarship is valid from February 8 to November 14, 2010, with the Grand Finale taking place on November 14 at New Delhi.

The following are the various stages of the program:

Terms and Condition

  • The scholarship programme (hereinafter “programme”) is open for all students from
    classes 3 to 8 of government recognized schools including private, public or national
    open schools all over India. The programme duration is from 8th February 2010 till
    14th November 2010. The participant must be an Indian national.
  • Children of MNYL employees or Directors or individual agents or employees of Derek
    O’ Brien and Associates or employees of Euro RSCG India Private Limited will not
    be eligible for the programme. No participation or other fee is required to be paid
    for participating in the programme.
  • There are two levels i) I-genius Junior: classes 3-5 (ii) I-Genius Senior: classes
    6-8.The level to which the participant will belong will be determined by the class
    he/she will attend on 1st April 2010 or thereafter as per their 2010-2011 school
    session.
  • The participant/guardian agrees to provide MNYL current, complete and accurate information,
    which information whether personal or otherwise including the mobile or other phone
    numbers mentioned on the registration form may be used by MNYL for it’s promotional
    activities and/or for solicitation of insurance including sending the participant
    or his/her guardian electronic messages without any further reference, payment or
    other compensation to the participant or to his/her guardian.
  • An incomplete entry form or on-line registration by a participant/guardian or the
    registration form (whether online or not) in which the information provided is not
    factually correct, is liable to be rejected by MNYL in it’s sole and absolute discretion.
    MNYL is not liable to respond to any feedback, suggestion and/or queries of the
    participants except queries with respect to frequently asked questions, general
    process of the programme, registration forms received, results of the participants,
    etc. The registration form will be deemed incomplete if any of the following mandatory
    fields are not completed i.e Child’s name,Child’s DOB, Child’s class as on April
    1, 2010, Father’s name, Father’s mobile number, City.
  • Students can participate through either of the following media: online, short messaging
    service (“sms”),the cost of the sms will be Rs. 3/sms and will be borne by the participant/guardian
    wireless access protocol (“wap”), print media, MNYL representatives including distribution
    channels, affinity tie-ups, pre-designated school contact programme, (list of designated
    schools as decided by MNYL). A Participant who participates in the programme through
    multiple entries, will have his/her first completed entry considered for the programme.
  • The school contact programme is only being conducted in 24 cities as mentioned below.
    The offline test will be administered only for the students who register themselves
    through the school contact programme conducted by Derek O’ Brien and Associates.
    The cities in which school contact programme will be conducted are as follows: Amritsar,
    Bhubhaneshwar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Pune, Indore, Agra, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Nagpur,
    Nasik, Baroda, Surat, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Ranchi, Cochin, Vizag, Jaipur, Coimbatore,
    Vijaywada, Jalandhar, Mysore and Bhopal. In addition only online tests will be conducted
    for rest of the enrolments/registrations across India. Centres may be changed with
    a prior notice.
  • Online test: The registration for the online test is from February 8,2010 to March
    31,2010. The Stage 1 of the online test shall take place between April 1, 2010 to
    July 31, 2010.Those qualifying for Stage 2, will have to appear for another online
    test between August 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010. The dates as mentioned are only
    tentative and may be changed subject to a notice of the same, which will be published
    on www.igenius.org. The online test can be undertaken through www.igenius.org. Those
    qualifying for Stage 3, will have to appear in person for an interview with a select
    panel via web link at one of the below mentioned cities i.e., Amritsar, Bhubhaneshwar,
    Chandigarh, Dehradun, Pune, Indore, Agra, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Nagpur, Nasik, Baroda,
    Surat, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Ranchi, Cochin, Vizag, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Vijaywada,
    Jalandhar, Mysore, Bhopal, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore
    at their own expense. Online participants have to choose a city nearest to the above
    mentioned cities as a home city and may have to travel to that city if they qualify
    for the 3rd stage. If they are unable to do so then they would be disqualified from
    the programme, the next participant will get the chance to appear for the said interview.
    The details of the weblink and the schedule for the interviews shall be informed
    to the participants. Those qualifying from Stage 4, will have to take part in the
    final round in Delhi on November 14, 2010. The costs of travel, boarding and lodging
    for stage 4 will be borne by MNYL.
  • Offline/Written test: The Stage 1 of the offline/written test shall take place between
    April 1, 2010 to July 31, 2010., at the designated schools only, and students of
    those school can participate . Those qualifying for Stage 2, will have to appear
    for another written test between August 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010. The dates
    as mentioned are only tentative and may be changed subject to a notice of the same,
    which will be published on www.igenius.org. The online test can be undertaken through
    www.igenius.org. Those qualifying for Stage 3 will have to appear in person for
    an interview with a select panel via web link at one of the below mentioned cities

  • The following scholarships shall be given to the successful participants: Top Scholarship
    (1 for each level): Rs. 20 Lacs; 2nd Scholarship (25 for each level): Rs. 100,000/-
    and 3rd Scholarship (120 for each level): Rs. 10,000/-; Consolation scholarships
    (1500 for each category): Rs.3,000/-.
  • The participants will be evaluated and the participants who will be considered as
    all rounders will be eligible for the scholarships as above. The evaluation will
    be conducted by Derek O’ Brien & Associates on behalf of MNYL.
  • The decision of MNYL based on the evaluation by Derek O’ Brien & Associates, on
    the selected participants shall be final, binding and non-contestable.
  • Under no circumstances can MNYL be held responsible for psychological satisfaction
    of the participants, weather conditions, nor for cancellation of reservation or
    alteration or amendment once the programme has commenced on the basis of weather
    conditions.
  • Participation in the programme shall be construed as an acceptance of these terms
    and conditions by the participant as well as his/her guardian. Any breach or default
    by a participant or of his/her guardian of any of these terms and conditions shall
    result in immediate disqualification without notice.
  • MNYL may at any time, modify these terms and conditions with or without notice and
    without assigning any reason and participant’s continued participation in the programme
    will be considered as his/her and his/her guardian’s deemed acceptance of the modified
    terms and conditions.
  • MNYL reserves the right to make changes to the programme. If necessary, changes
    may be made to its content, method and organization before or during the running
    of such programme.
  • Save as otherwise provided herein, MNYL or its officials, directors, partners, employees,
    consultants and agents are under no obligation to render any advice or service to
    any participant in respect of the programme.
  • MNYL reserves the right to disqualify any participant for tampering with the entry
    process, providing misleading documentation; acting in violation of these terms
    and conditions; acting in a disruptive manner; or acting with the intent to annoy,
    abuse, threaten or harass any other person. MNYL reserves the right to seek damages
    from any such participant to the fullest extent permitted by law.
  • Scholarships and other consolation scholarships, if any shall be non-transferable
    nor exchangable. No other person or agent can claim the scholarships on behalf of
    the participants unless specifically permitted by MNYL.
  • MNYL will not bear any responsibility for transporting/sending any of the scholarships/awards
    to the successful participants.
  • The scholarships and/or consolation scholarships shall be subject to tax deduction
    at source, which will be borne by the participants. All other taxes and levies,
    costs including, insurance and incidental costs, that may be levied or incurred
    on the scholarships shall be fully borne by the successful participants. If the
    participants are not willing to bear the above stated taxes, next alternative participant
    who agrees to bear such taxes will be chosen.
  • Apart from the scholarships, the successful participants or their legal heirs will
    have no other rights or claims against MNYL.
  • Subject to any applicable laws (a) All warranties, whether express or implied, are
    hereby expressly disclaimed by MNYL including, but not limited to, meeting of the
    participant’s requirements or aspirations, timeliness, security, delivery, quality,
    quantity, merchantability, fitness for use or non infringement in respect of any
    scholarships/scholarships acquired under the programme or any transactions effected
    through the programme; (b) The participants expressly agree that his/her participation
    in the programme is at the participant’s sole risk and is governed by the terms
    and conditions herein; and(c) No advice or information whether by representations,
    oral, written or pictorial derived from the website or through the programme shall
    be construed to mean the giving of any warranty of any kind by MNYL.
  • MNYL also reserves the right to withdraw or discontinue with the programme at any
    stage due to Force Majeure conditions or otherwise and MNYL shall bear no responsibility
    for cancellation or postponement of the said programme.
  • Participation in program is not linked to purchase of any product or service from
    Max New York Life Insurance Company Limited.

Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme-2011 www.ccrtindia.gov.in CCRT Scheme

The CCRT is implementing cultural talent search scholarship scheme to provide facilities to outstanding young children selected in the age group of 10 to 14 years for developing their talent in various cultural fields such as traditional forms of music, dance, drama, painting, sculpture and crafts laying special emphasis on rare art forms. The scholarship awarded under the scheme is for two years at a time which is renewable after every two years till the completion of the first university degree stage of education or up to the age of 20 years.

520 scholarships are awarded every year, of which 20 are being reserved for specially challenged children. The value of scholarship is Rs 3600/- (three thousand six hundred) per year and actual tuition fee paid for the specialized training is also reimbursed up to Rs 9000/- (nine thousand) per year.

Children whose date of birth is in between 01.07.1997 and 30.06.2001 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply for the award of scholarships for the year 2011-12.

BASIS OF SELECTION :-
Children in the age group of 10-14 years studying either in recognized schools or belonging to families practicing traditional, performing and other arts are chosen for the scholarships.
The outstanding children in various cultural fields such as traditional forms of music, dance, drama as well as painting, sculpture and crafts are selected for the award of scholarships. Special emphasis is given to rare art forms, which are in the process of becoming extinct.
